Eucalyptus oil

Eucalyptus globulus

A camphor steam for a closed room. Short sessions, open a window after.

Eucalyptus oil is for air, not for tea. One drop in hot water is a strong steam. It belongs in a well-ventilated room and a short list of household uses.

Traditional uses

  • A brief steam bowl when the air feels thick
  • A drop on a shower floor (not the drain) before a hot shower
  • A few drops in a floor-wash bucket

How to prepare

  1. 1

Steam: 1 drop in hot water. Eyes closed. Two minutes is enough.

  2. 2

Shower: 1 drop on the tile, well away from the drain and from bare feet.

  3. 3

Never add it to a humidifier meant for plain water unless the maker says so.

Kitchen & home

  • Air the room when you are done.
  • Do not use around birds or cats.
  • Buy a small bottle; it does not need to be a lifetime supply.

Go gently

  • Do not ingest. Keep off the faces of young children.
  • Can trigger breathing discomfort in some people — stop if it does.
  • Flammable. Store capped.
