Rosemary oil

Salvia rosmarinus

A pine-herbal drop for a diffuser or a diluted scalp oil. Not for cooking.

Rosemary oil is not a shortcut for the sprig in the pan. It is a concentrated scent. Dilute it in jojoba for a scalp massage, or put a few drops in a diffuser. Cook with the leaf.

Traditional uses

  • Diluted scalp or temple oil
  • A short diffuser session at a desk
  • A drop in a homemade linen spray with lavender

How to prepare

  1. 1

Scalp: 1 drop in 1 tsp jojoba. Massage the skin, not the eyes. Rinse if it stings.

  2. 2

Diffuser: 3 drops, 20 minutes, then off.

  3. 3

Never add essential oil to a hot frying pan.

Kitchen & home

  • Keep the cooking rosemary and the oil on different shelves.
  • A little on a wooden comb is an old hair habit — still dilute.
  • The cineole chemotype is punchier; start weaker.

Go gently

  • Do not ingest. Do not use in pregnancy without advice.
  • Can feel stimulating — a poor bedtime scent for some people.
  • Keep away from faces of young children and from pets.
